Water Cities- Los Angeles, new exhibit at LAX by Argentinean artist Luciana Abait explores critical environmental changes facing Los Angeles

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, announces a new art exhibition in Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Water Cities – Los Angeles, on public view on the Lower/Arrivals level through early March 2017.
Water Cities – Los Angeles is a solo mixed-media photography exhibition by Luciana Abait
that examines the relationship between humans and the natural and built environment. Abait
altered her nine large-scale aerial photographs of Los Angeles and recreates them in a surreal
manner by digitally inserting massive swimming pools and large bodies of water that appear to
invade iconic landmarks of the city. Abait presents a transformed view of the city, while
encouraging viewers to reflect on the critical environmental issues facing Los Angeles.
“Swimming pools and the ocean are an essential part of Los Angeles’ culture and identity,”
states Abait.
“At the same time, climate change has produced dramatic floods and epic droughts in this
amazing city.
I hope this exhibition will compel viewers to consider the significance of our impact on the
environment.”
